The topic of the death penalty this year led me to investigate the crimes people are being killed by the state for. The crimes are indeed cruel, depraved, heartless and deserving of absolute punishment. Whatever that punishment is, is up to public and government opinion. We all have our own opinions on it, but to me that’s not the important aspect about horrific crime.
I believe strongly, as history has proven, that crimes against animals leads to crimes against humanity. We all become enert by all the horror we see against both humans and animals, and evil, getting higher on it and going for thrills, keeps escalating.
Seeing the depravity of factory farms, slaughterhouses and all animal abuse and exploitation hasn’t made me numb to the horror humans do to other humans, it just seems a part of the same system. Where some lives matter more than others, and human want, and feelings are God, not love, care, understanding and compassion. These values are laws of humanity and are absent in both animal and human slaughter.

Kindness to humans begins when we change our attitudes towards the most powerless and most needy. Where love and care, not power and dominance, are what we respect, support and admire. When we stop abusing animals to meet our wants and sinful desires then maybe we’ll live in a world where bad humans will be alot less normalized, enabled, empowered and more unlikely to do the same grave injustices upon other humans.

Love breeds love, just like hate breeds hate. This rule and law of nature applies to all life, all good things, and it demands we stop the killing of animals for theirs and our sake. In this season of celebrating the birth of Jesus, of love and goodwill, let’s extend that love and good will to all beings and celebrate the dawn of a better, stronger, wiser world of peace and justice that only love for all beings can create.
Happy holidays to all my readers and wishing you a happy, healthy, blessed, productive and peaceful new year!
