We are living in very divided times. It seems that we are so fractured, so oppositional, that peace will never return to our culture and our nations. What is the missing link, that used to unify our society? I think it’s pretty simple and clear. It is the truth and first world’s cultural reverence for it.
People can be different and disagree and still get along as long as they share the same understanding, and aims that come from a shared truth. In our age of my and your truths, alternates truths, fake facts, and news, no wonder we are a people at war with everyone except our own small tribes.
Take for example veganism. No other issue these days is so constantly assaulted with lies, and bold-faced denial of the truth, the fact-based, reality and research-based, people tested and confirmed truth.
The truth about veganism is that it’s not just “crazy, extreme” vegans saying it matters and that the need for it is real, it’s everybody. The UN, the global and national medical community, scientists, environmentalists, experts all agree.
They all agree that animal agriculture is one of the main threats to our planet, humanity, and our world’s health, well being and our climate. That a plant-based diet is a big step forward, and necessary for sustainable life here on earth. Animal welfare experts agree that the suffering of farmed and breed animals is real, preventable and extreme. There are numerous studies and case studies of the health benefits and miracles that occur with a vegan diet. It’s a diet and lifestyle that enhances the human experience, increase fairness, plenty, and is also necessary to maintain the world as we know it. It’s an easy and enjoyable solution to many of our world’s big and pressing problems.
People upon hearing this news, and it’s really unavoidable these days, can either go with the truth, and change their habits, or go with the lies, denial, or willful, wrathful ignorance and refuse to.
If you go with the truth, all people can get along. Go with the lies and fight the truth, and there is no way those who know and believe it can go along with you.
Here is the range of thinking people have about veganism, and it shows the wide gaps in agreement and understanding.
Lies/Wrong
Veganism is a crazy idea, based on the beliefs of crazy, extreme, fringe people with no facts backing it up. We will be fine living and eating as we do.
Truth/Correct
Veganism is one of the main factor creating planetary destruction, climate change, and suffering of humanity and animals, and pollution. A vegan world is the only sustainable, peaceful and possible world.
The cannot get along attitude
Veganism is a lie, and I’ll eat all the meat, and use all the animals I want.
Veganism is the truth, but I truly don’t care, so I’ll eat and use animals as I please.
The can get along attitudes
Veganism is the truth, but I love fur and meat too much to change. I should, and I am wrong.
Veganism is the truth, and I am mindful of my impact when I buy or eat anything animal based. I am changing, and can and will try to do better.
Veganism is the truth, and I am actively saying no to animal use and exploitation, and am a flexitarian or vegetarian. I should go vegan, but I’m not quite there yet.
Veganism is the truth, and that’s why I am and became a vegan.
Acknowledging the truth, and your wrong doing is the first step to recovery as any 12 Stepper can tell you. Unless you are steadfastly on the side of truth (the moral, intellectual equivalent of sobriety) you cannot get along, or expect someone who stands by the truth to get along with you. This is how divided nations are created.
As long as everyone, or the large majority and status quo all agree, and stand by the truth, then it can function as a unified society.
When media and the status quo are against the truth, then you have what we have, a divided society of truth tellers who cannot back down, and lie protectors who won’t.
This is where we are at now. To move forward, veganism must be declared the truth regularly in the media, and in our culture, and sold as such. This needs to happen, and soon as we are, in regard to this issue, heading rapidly into decline, one we can easily stop by simply saying, “Hey Vegans are actually correct! Veganism matters and the need for it real. It takes nothing from any human to be vegan, and it benefits all life here on earth.” That’s easy enough. I wonder still, how long will it take for this miracle to happen? I hope before it’s too late. Animal species, farmed animals, and our planet don’t have forever to wait.
