It was very sad to wake up and hear of the Senate voting in favour of the GOP Tax Bill. What an awful Christmas present to America this is. Unbelievable, but not really surprising when you are aware of the trends in western nation towards austerity, and the rise of the xenophobia that helps support it. This is what Trump supporters voted for, and they too are going to end up paying for it.
The GOP Tax bill is a major tragedy for all Americans, except the very rich, and for the entire world as well. In the bills, are included permission and plans to open the protected Arctic and vast areas of national parks to fracking and drilling for oil. Its give fetuses personhood from conception, leading the way to more abortion bans, and restrictions. It will force many off of health insurance, raise rates for the sick and seniors, drastically cut services for the poor and seniors, and increase taxes for the middle class. It will decline dramatically the economic growth fosters by the Obama administration as its been proven austerity cripples economies. It will disadvantage the young seeking jobs, higher education, and prospects for a decent, affordable life. It will also drastically cut taxes for the super rich and corporations. The middle class and poor will be paying for these tax cuts for the 500k+ earners, and paying for them for decades to come.
This is all in the bill. The GOP don’t even bother hiding it because, of course, their power and popularity has never been about sensical issues and things- its just made of spite, hate, and arrogance and the resultant crazy, extremist ideology and agenda.
I guess people have unshakable faith that civilized governments don’t kill their citizens but the UK Tories has already proven otherwise. I cannot fathom the ignorance and spite that could blind low and middle-income voters to the economic reality the GOP presented to them, or the amount of disdain for others, the wealthy who voted for Trump, would need to have.
This is a bill that throws many Americans under the bus and refuses to help those already there. It’s a cruel bill and one based solely on keeping power in the hands of the GOP by keeping their corporate and rich donors happy, themselves in power. It also appeases the anti-environment,anti-planet, anti-wildlife, and pro-life voters.
Now hate, greed and the lust for power are going to rewrite the economy of one of the greatest economic systems in our world, the modern first world free enterprise system. Its shocking, and a very sad victory against democratic tradition, and first world policies and economic programs. Its also a big step towards a purely third world economic model, one that supports only great wealth, and vast poverty.
People voted for Trump partially because of rampant xenophobia, and fear of an immigrant third world takeover of western culture, so there is that sad irony as well.
This is a real tragedy, as another western nation falls to austerity policies, and extreme capitalism. The only hopes for America are impeachment of Trump, due to collusion with Russia, or a Blue Tide in November taking back the House, Senate, and eventually the Presidency. Hopefully, that will occur and that the poor, old, young and Liberals can hold on and survive until then.
