This horrifying image, and others circulating online, of the Israel “aid” scheme, are to me and many others, strongly evocative of images of concentrations camps. The herding of humans like cattle, the attempts to humiliate, dehumanize and create unjust suffering and hardship, making a cruel joke and a western blind of aid and benevolance, and the onsite Nazi outpost overseeing the entire charade, are proof of what this seige on Gaza has become, was designed to become, and of the true nature and intent of the government and its voice boxes who have created it.
Gaza is and has always been a concentration camp, with all necessary elements of life controlled by people who have over the past 77 years made no secret of wishing all its residents dead and gone. It’s now fully in concentration camp mode with it’s combination of trapped civilians, constant targeted destruction of all life sustaining infastructure, and the targeted killing of civilians, children and those who provide healthcare, journalistic coverage, aid distribution, education, as well as the cruelty of constant, unnecessary displacement from one unsafe zone to another. This farce of a security based, hostage rescue mission has become so cruel, so unlawful that it has finally spurred world governments into action.
This is good news but it should have come decades ago. Unfortunately diplomacy, unlike war, requires restraint, planning, weighing the possibilities, and intervention requires crisis. Human nature also is much more willing to crash into disaster before we’re willing to act and change belief, custom and understanding, what we call peace, no matter how far from peace the situations may be.
I hope the actions currently being discussed, and committed to regarding Israel’s accountability, criminality, and Palestine’s future, rebuilding and rights of self determination, will be strong and swift. Strong enough to fully end the seige and occupation, restore full, unmilitarized aid immediately and end all Israel and US control over the lives, land, future, the long silenced narrative of Palestinians, their history and lives under occupation, and will actualize the dream of a free Palestine in a timely and immediate manner.
Israel meanwhile endangers Jews everywhere, by relying on and playing on their greatest weapon and strength, their Jewishness. People are so shocked that any Jews could be so cruel, so deceitful and calculating, but have no problem believing all Arab Palestinians could be terrorist or to blame for it. This is pure racism that has been entrenched in the west since 9/11. We see it globally as well, as Muslims everywhere are persecuted, the focus of anti immigrant, migrant hatred, and even democratic liberal leaders have brought headscarf bans and other restrictions into law.
We must never doubt we are not a completely evolved species, even while we keep striving for that perfection. In the meanwhile, we must do the bare minimum as humans and that is having zero tolerance for those who grossly breech our norms of human law, decency and trust. We must sanction and boycott this Israel, who are guilty of all of the above, condemn the colonialist, racist apartheid Israel that has always been, and not be subdued by Netanyahu’s Israel’s cloak of Jewish victimhood impunity, and say and stand by never again, and that means now and for all.
